Young people in Tamworth champion the Your Staffordshire Card

Aug 15, 2012 by Warren

Staffordshire County Council has been busy training up a group of young champions from Tamworth to promote the award-winning Your Staffordshire Card.  Their mission, should they choose to accept it is to get more young people to sign up for the card and to get more businesses involved in offering special benefits to card holders.

The innovative travel/loyalty card was introduced in April 2011 after young people through the Staffordshire Youth Action Kouncil (YAK) told the Council they wanted discounted travel around the county.  Young people who own a card now benefit from £1 per bus journey, special offers from almost 60 businesses, and most recently half price entry to Drayton Manor Park this summer!

YAK has been involved with the card since its introduction, has worked tirelessly to promote it and was instrumental in the training up of the young ambassadors.

Julianne Bayley, aged 18, from Tamworth, one of the Your Staffordshire Card ambassadors said:

“The Your Staffordshire Card scheme is fantastic. It offers a really cheap travel option for young people travelling to school, college, and work or just getting out to meet friends.  It also entitles cardholders to a range of special offers from almost 60 different businesses from bakeries to hairdressers and Karate lessons to theme parks.”

“I’m really looking forward to getting out there to promote the card to young people who don’t have one yet and to local businesses who want to join the scheme and tap into the youth market.”

Staffordshire County Councillor, Mike Maryon, Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways said:

“The Your Staffordshire Card has proved to be a major success with almost 30,000 young people signing up since it was launched as a young person’s travel card in April 2011.  About a third of young people now hold a card.

“It is now much more than a travel card with almost 60 businesses signed up offering excellent special offers to 11-19 year olds.  This is great news for our teenagers and also for our local businesses and retailers who are trading under very challenging circumstances.

“I am truly delighted with the enthusiasm and dedication of our army of young ambassadors, who seem determined to get more teenagers to sign up for a card and to get more businesses onboard.  I wish them well on their mission.”
