Towns MP follows Peels footsteps and signs Mayors book
Tamworth MP, Christopher Pincher has followed in Sir Robert Peels footsteps and signed the Mayors book at Tamworth’s Town hall.
Christopher Pincher joined Mayor Lee Bates in Tamworth’s historic town hall to sign the mayor’s guests’ book as the town’s new Member of Parliament. The guests’ book is kept in the mayor’s parlour in the town hall where in 1834 Mr. Pincher’s famous predecessor, Sir Robert Peel, issued his Tamworth Manifesto launching the modern Conservative Party.
The guests’ book has previously been signed by The Queen, Princess Anne and former MP Sir David Lightbown to name just a few.
Afterwards Mr. Pincher said:
“I am very pleased and honoured that the Mayor invited me to sign his guests’ book. Visiting the town hall is also something to remember. The old council chamber is historic. The furniture and portraits are very imposing. It is certainly more impressive than many modern council buildings.
“I would like to thank the mayor for inviting me to sign our town hall’s guest book.”
